The Cockatiel has to spend plenty of time in its travel cage. Time in the plane, is a part of it. The trip to the plane and back home is the other part. And, this time could be in crowded public places. It's very important that the Cockatiel is well adapted to its travel cage. Cockatiel often suffer from motion sickness. This can be prevented. The bird has to be gradually familiarized to travel.

Travelling With Cockatiels Take the bird out on a short trip. The bird's reaction should be watched. This will give the owner a fair idea of the bird's tendencies. The distances of these trips can be gradually increased. This way, the Cockatiel will get adapted to travel. Preparation for the journey has to begin ten days before the intended date. Fortify the birds diet with vitamins. During the journey, the Cockatiel should be given smaller feeds.

The final step is carrying the things you will need for the Cockatiel. Make a list before hand. Items can be added to it. Things to take are: 1. A health certificate by the vet is a must. 2. Containers for food and water. 3. Food is another requirement. It is always good to take some extra food. Never forget the treats. 4. Water is equally important. It is better to take bottled-water from home. 5. Paper towels and towels to line the cage. Travelling With Cockatiels 6. Its favorite toys. 7. The first aid kit. 8. Any other important papers if required. 9. Some vitamins. 10. Finally, the avian veterinarian's phone number. On the day of the journey, it is advisable to reach the airport at least one hour before departure. Keep the health certificate at hand. Anyone may ask for it.

Give the Cockatiel for a good drink of water first. Then to the potty. Label the cage to clearly denote a live animal sticker. Mention your name and address on the cage. Before boarding the plane the bird will have to be security checked. The airline staff can be requested to hand check the bird with a wand. X-Ray of the birds is better avoided. While on the flight, place the caged bird beneath the seat of the passenger in front. Cover the cage with a light blanket. Leave one side of the cage open to allow air circulation.
